Our team We are Yan, Leon, Magda and Karl, four friends/partners/siblings and are the originators of the vegan PARUQ paper backpack. We realise the backpack idea in our "spare time" and hope to make ourselves less dependent on our jobs at some point. :P HOW IT ALL BEGAN - So we want to be independent and make a positive contribution to the climate. With this in mind, we simply kept our eyes and ears open for quite a while. When we discovered kraft paper, we had an idea: so many sturdy clothing products like backpacks are either plastic- and therefore petroleum-based or made from animal derived materials, i.e. environmentally and climate damaging or not vegan. Kraft paper offered a great way out of this problem, where no compromise on durability was required. Our backpack Water-resistant sustainable and minimalist roll-top backpack Voilà! The PARUQ Rolltop, the best paper product since the invention of the book. Sustainably made, 100% vegan, light as a feather, water repellent, washable.... And damn chic.  Kraft paper - no compromises: Our Kraft paper is based on a renewable raw material: wood from FSC-certified softwood sources in Germany. The combination of the long fibres with a small amount of skin-friendly latex ensures its water resistance and durability. It is recyclable and carries the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificate, meaning it contains no harmful substances. So many more robust clothing products, such as backpacks, are either plastic or leather. The latter is unfortunate if you're vegan, and the former is frustrating if you want to live sustainably. No plastic can be recycled infinitely, so the only long-term sustainable solution is a plastic-free product. Kraft paper offered a great way out of this problem, requiring no compromise on durability.  THE DESIGN ...is minimalist. We wanted you to be able to mix and match the backpack with any outfit and for it to move beyond short-lived fads. Subtle logo, single colour, all pockets turned inwards. The idea is that it will still look good in 50 years. Your backpack will accompany you wherever you go and will always be visible, which is why the design is so important to us. So for you: it's durable, it's practical, it looks good, we hope you enjoy your PARUQ! <3 Our promise We firmly believe in making the world a better place through conscious action. We are a small start up and still have a long way to go to meet our own ecological vision. We want to continuously improve and completely iron out our ecological footprint in the long run. There is a company that allows us to offset CO2 through reforestation. However, as this cooperation is paid in larger shares, we are currently in a kind of limbo where we put money aside for this project with every sale, but cannot officially advertise it yet, as the first share has not been paid yet. As soon as that happens we will let you know.
